Easter 2012 – The Healing Stream Of 2000 + Years

Categories: Study

“It’s a healing stream, a fountain, an eternal cleansing flood.”

For the last few posts we’ve been taking a deeper look into the importance of the blood of Jesus Christ.  Today, I would like to take a different approach to the same subject and do a little “compare and contrast” with the blood in our bodies, and see some familiar character traits that it has to the blood of Christ in regards to cleansing and healing.

Did you know that the blood flowing through our veins cleanses our bodies from germs and bacteria?  The Discovery Channel said this: “White blood cells help with immune system defense against illness or infection.”  Kids Health (kidshealth.org) also said, “Whenever a germ or infection enters the body, the white blood cells snap to attention and race toward the scene of the crime. The white blood cells are continually on the lookout for signs of disease. When a germ does appear, the white blood cells have a variety of ways by which they can attack. Some will produce protective antibodies that will overpower the germ. Others will surround and devour the bacteria.”

Learning this about the blood in my physical body opened up a whole new view on what the blood of Christ does for me spiritually.  How many times did the Almighty tell His children in the Old Testament that they could not come into His presence unless they were clean or cleansed?  Countless times!  The whole book of Leviticus is dedicated to the topic of “how to reach God – with clean hands.”  Well, how do you get clean?  In the Old Testament it was through animal sacrifices – but today, it’s through redemption…through the blood.  I like to think about it like this: the infection, germs and bacteria in my body is sin – Christ’s blood is like the White Blood Cells that are “continually on the lookout for signs of disease,” and, “overpower the germ…and devour the bacteria.”  The blood is more powerful than the diseases they fight against in your body and mine, and the blood of Christ is more powerful than sin.

“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?  This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood.  And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.”
– 1 John 5:4-6

So, if blood cleanses our bodies to the point that it attacks and kills diseases, it’s pretty safe to say that blood plays a part in the healing process too, eh?  I think so!  I also think that the blood of Christ heals…

There is a verse in the Old Testament, one that I’m sure we all know, that brings up this subject of healing.  It says, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”   – Isaiah 53:5.  If you’ve ever seen Gary Casto of Tribute Quartet introduce their song, I Am Healed, in concert, … you’ve probably heard him talk about this very verse.  To say it in his words, “I believe that means a physical healing, an emotional healing, a financial healing, etc.”  The blood of Christ brings healing to whatever area of our life that needs it.  In the last post, we learned that the Cleansing Blood cleansed the leper – what happened when the leper was cleansed?  – He was healed from leprosy!  So it is with us, when we are cleansed, we are healed.  Even 2,000 + years later, the blood has never lost its power!

Have you felt the touch of Jesus Christ?  Are you healed?
