The Three Wise Men…Road Trip!

Categories: Study

I guess the Lord has really been teaching me about the wise men this year. When they saw the star, they knew what it meant, but they weren’t happy just knowing that the new born King was out there somewhere…they wanted to see and worship Him themselves! And they couldn’t do that from where they were, so they had to do something different…Road trip!

The wise men weren’t going to see the Lord Jesus if they continued to do what they always had done. Likewise, we aren’t going to know Him more if we don’t make an effort to change something in our lives also.

I think a lot of us are due for our own spiritual “road trip.”

I was reading in Micah six this morning and found verses six through eight very eye-opening. This very well could be the first step to our road trip…

“Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath shown thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.”

“And to walk humbly with thy God.” – This Christmas, the “high God,” as Micah calls Him, wants to walk with you!

I’ve learned from the example of the wise men that there’s a difference between just knowing things about the Lord (like seeing His star and knowing He’s out there somewhere) and knowing the Lord personally (like stepping out on faith and searching for Him and getting to know and see Him for who He really is!) I see a lot of people go to church, sit in a pew a few times a week, listen to someone else be passionate about the Lord, then go home and try to live all week off of that other person’s relationship with God – and it doesn’t work very well. That’s not what the wise men did, they searched for Him on their own. That reminds me, that when I’m not at church, I need to be seeking Him for myself too. Cause if I’m not seeking Him, if a star were to appear, I wouldn’t know what it would mean, and I would go on living my life just like everybody else in the time of Christ‘s birth. There is a promise in the sky about the Hope for the World and no one knew what it was except the wise men, because they were the only ones seeking Him! Now, there aren’t going to be any more stars in the sky, but if we’re walking with Him, our spiritual lives will go places we don’t even dare to imagine.

A personal relationship with the High God – how’s that for a gift that keeps on giving!

 MERRY CHRISTMAS!
