The Barton family is off again to help missionaries in the Caribbean! In the second book of the Barton Family Adventure Series, Voodoo Encounter, the Barton’s sail into Haiti to help a missionary family prepare for revival services. The first day there, Nat runs into trouble when he gets lost in the village…ending up at the door of the local witch doctor! The short novella goes on to explore what happens when an earthquake shakes up the mission’s plans for revival and how the witch doctor stirs up his own amount of trouble.

This chapter book is geared towards a younger audience, but even as an adult, I enjoyed it. Missionary stories are near the top of my list of favorite reads and though this book had a simple plot, it was a fun read. I liked the author’s descriptions of Haiti and what the people face there. Voodoo Encounter is a good read for younger teens who are interested in missionary work around the world. Of course, it was a perfect fit for my reading challenge, “Around The World In 80 Books!”
